SPECIAL CATEGORIES
QUILTS
May be mounted in or on a rigid frame, but still needs a sleeve for hanging.
- 100 Show Theme, “Looking __________” – Quilts made with any technique. May be made by more than one person.
- 101 “Looking Back” – Quilts that were the first (or second) quilt you ever made. Show us how far you have come. These can be made before 2018, as most of us have been making quilts for longer than that.
- 102 Entry from 2021 Online Show – Display your entry from last year’s online show that you would like to have viewed in person.
QUILTS
- 110 Pieced– Predominantly pieced, including paper piecing.
- 111 Applique (Machine)– Predominantly machine appliqued.
- 112 Applique (Hand)– Predominantly hand appliqued.
- 113 Embroidered (Machine) – Machine Embroidery is the predominant design element.
- 114 Embroidered (Hand) – Hand Embroidery is the predominant design element.
- 115 Mixed Technique – A combination of two or more techniques which can include piecing, applique, embroidery, beading, photos, or painting.
- 116 Kit – Made with kit fabric, which includes Blocks of the Month if fabric is provided. It also includes quilts made with a combination of kit and non-kit fabrics. This is the only category allowing for using kit fabrics.
- 117 Small / Miniature – May be whole cloth. Quilts with length plus width is equal to or less than 48 inches.
- 118 Modern – Should incorporate three or more of the following – improvisational piecing, wonky piecing of traditional blocks, modern fabrics, solid fabrics, bold colors, high value contrast, varying the setting and/or scale of blocks, negative space, and minimalism.
- 119 Holiday Themed – Any technique. Can be for any holiday.
- 120 Juvenile – Made for a juvenile or child. Embellishments that might be pulled or chewed off are strongly discouraged on quilts made for children less than 5 years of age.
- 121 Youth Entry – Must be entirely made and quilted by the youth, 18 years of age or younger.
- 122 First Entry – First entry to a Desert Quilters of Nevada show.
- 123 Collaboration/Group – Two or more people constructed the quilt. Any technique.
- 124 Open – Any quilt that does not fit the above categories, including but not limited to yo-yo, cathedral window, crazy quilt, whole cloth or rag quilts, quilts with false backs, and quilts with no batting.
- 200 Bags/Totes –Quilting is not required in this category.
- 201 Home Dec – Table Runners, Placemats, Pillows, etc. Does not include wall hangings. Kits and/or false backs are allowed in this category. Some quilting IS REQUIRED.
- 202 Doll or Animal – Can be made by one person or a group. With a pattern or without.

- 300 Non-Representational – Non-Representational art does not represent a real object or being. It leaves it to the viewer to interpret the meaning of the art based on the visual cues presented by lines, textures, colors, and values. Some people think of this as "abstract,".
- 301 Representational – Representational Art depicts an object or being in the real world. It may be realistic, impressionistic, surreal, or fanciful/whimsical.
